We appreciate that immigration issues and applications can be dauting. The Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre can provide advice on a range of immigration matters including:
  • applications for visas,
  • indefinite leave to remain, and
  • citizenship.

Please note that the Centre is unable to advise on asylum applications, however we may be able to provide signposting to other organisations that are able to assist in these matters. You may also find resources and support by contacting:

Case Study

Mrs B arrived in the UK on a spouse visa in December 2014. She had been married to her partner for 1 year, having married abroad and waited to obtain the relevant visa before travelling to the UK. Following her arrival, Mrs B’s partner became controlling and abusive. One two occasions there had been instances of domestic violence which were not reported to the police. Mrs B wanted advice on what her options were if she were to leave her partner and whether she could obtain indefinite leave to remain in the UK. We advised her on the relevant application she could make to stay in the UK and the types of evidence she would need to provide in order to have the best chance of succeeding with the application. Mrs B said she found the advisers very comforting and felt reassured by the advice provided.

The Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre is committed to offering its students and local community opportunities through collaborative work. We focus on offering employability skills to undergraduate law students and beyond and supporting causes that are in line with our ethos and QMLAC values.

One of these collaborations is with Future Leaders UK on our community mentoring scheme. This long-standing collaboration offers undergraduate students across the university the chance to mentor A-level students from East London.

We also run a scheme known as Advocates for Change which offers court marshalling to students, aiming to get more state school students into the Judiciary.

Please contact us on legal-advice-centre@qmul.ac.uk if you are interested in working with us on something new!
