Become a student advisor

Legal advice is delivered by Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre Student Legal Advisers under the supervision of qualified lawyers. Clients come to us from a wide variety of backgrounds and present a wide range of legal issues. This provides our students with the opportunity to experience law in a practical context and to develop many of the skills required for successful entry into the profession.

The Legal Advice Centre undergraduate modules

We also offer two optional undergraduate modules:

  • The Practice of Law in a Clinical Environment - this module trains students to be Student Legal Advisers
  • Street Law - a type of clinical legal education which is about educating the public on legal rights and/or responsibilities in their own community setting

Queen Mary Summer School

This year the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre is happy to offer ‘Legal Skills’ as part of the Queen Mary Summer School.’ This dynamic course will provide students with an opportunity to learn about some of the key legal skills which are used in practice to become a successful, ethical lawyer and professional.  You can find out more about the Summer School course here: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/summer-school/

LAC Partners

We run a number of collaborative projects alongside our legal advice clinic. These projects aim to provide greater support to individuals and organisations from within our local communities who often face real difficulties getting access to the legal advice or representation they need. Become a partner.

The Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre is committed to offering its students and local community opportunities through collaborative work. We focus on offering employability skills to undergraduate law students and beyond and supporting causes that are in line with our ethos and QMLAC values.

One of these collaborations is with Future Leaders UK on our community mentoring scheme. This long-standing collaboration offers undergraduate students across the university the chance to mentor A-level students from East London.

We also run a scheme known as Advocates for Change which offers court marshalling to students, aiming to get more state school students into the Judiciary.

Please contact us on legal-advice-centre@qmul.ac.uk if you are interested in working with us on something new!
