Profile

I am Programme Director for Biological Sciences and Lecturer in Infectious Biology at Queen Mary University of London.

I completed my PhD in Microbiology, following an MSc in Microbiology & Molecular Genetics and a BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology. My background is in infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and molecular microbiology, and I have a strong interest in teaching and supporting students.

I have over a decade of experience in higher education, including academic roles in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, where I contributed to teaching, curriculum development, and student supervision across biomedical and clinical laboratory science programmes.

I joined Queen Mary University of London in 2022 as a Teaching Fellow and now serve as Programme Director for Biological Sciences. In this role, I am responsible for the organisation, delivery, and ongoing development of the programme, working closely with colleagues to support curriculum innovation, student experience, and academic quality.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and have received several awards for teaching excellence, including the Best Teaching Fellow Award (2023), an award for innovation in teaching (2024), and a student-nominated award for Outstanding Contribution to the Student Experience (2026). My educational practice focuses on inclusive learning and student engagement.

Research

Research Interests:

My research focuses on infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance, particularly the molecular basis of drug resistance in bacterial pathogens. I have worked on antimicrobial resistance genes, biofilm formation, and the epidemiology of multidrug-resistant organisms.
My work also explores host–pathogen interactions and immune responses in infectious diseases.
I am interested in integrating research into teaching and supporting student engagement with current developments in the field

Scholarly Contributions

My scholarly activities include:

  • Developing co-curricular initiatives, including laboratory skills training and AI literacy for students
  • Enhancing inclusive teaching, assessment, and student engagement within Biological Sciences
