While some students may know exactly what support they want, others may not. It's perfectly reasonable to not know what kind of support you may need, or benefit from. Our approach is to work together to identify and agree on a fluid support plan from your very first appointment with us.

Signposting
There is a wealth of support on offer at Queen Mary University, and it can be hard to know which services to access and how to access them. Our team has an awareness of all the support services on offer to you, and we can plug you into the services that could benefit you. Which would not only save you time but also make you aware of services that you may not know exist.
Referral to therapeutic and psychological services
In Malta we work with a range of professionals across the Maltese islands. You can speak with student support about which professional and type of therapy may be most appropriate for your unique circumstances.
The university can cover the cost of a maximum of 12 therapy sessions, per student, per academic year.
Practical guidance
Beyond emotional support, we can provide practical solutions to everyday challenges which students face. This could include help with time management, study skills, balancing academic and personal commitments, or dealing with financial or housing concerns. We also offer advice on university processes such as appeals and complaints.
Extenuating Circumstances (ECs) support
If unexpected personal difficulties impact your ability to complete assessments or meet deadlines, you may be eligible to apply for Extenuating Circumstances. Support check-ins
Whether you're facing academic or personal challenges, we're here to help. We offer regular check-ins with the same Student Support Officer, providing consistent, ongoing support. These sessions create a safe and structured space where you can openly discuss any concerns with someone who understands the ins and outs of training to become healthcare professional.
Tailored Results Release support
Receiving your academic results can be an anxious time, and we are here to support you through it. Whether you need guidance on understanding your grades, advice on next steps, or support in dealing with unexpected results, our team offers personalised assistance to help you move forward.
In-house Occupational Health services
Here at our Malta campus, we offer a full 360 Occupational Health service. From blood tests, x-rays, to vaccinations - and everything in between, we have got you covered. We ensure you receive full health clearance for public health, placement, and identity card legalities.
We also have access to OH Works - our UK based team whom we work in partnership with to ensure you receive further support, if deemed required. This may include the implementation of reasonable adjustments, discussions around fitness for study, fitness for placement, and more.
This helps ensures you receive the necessary support, adjustments, or accommodations to continue your education successfully.

Health Passports
For students with long-term health conditions, disabilities, or learning difficulties, a Health Passport can help communicate your needs effectively to staff and placement providers. We support you in creating and using a Health Passport to ensure you receive appropriate adjustments and accommodations throughout your academic journey.
Referral to Study Skills Services
We offer study skills referrals to connect students with experienced external study skills tutors. These tutors provide personalised guidance to enhance your learning strategies, time management, note-taking, exam preparation, and overall academic performance. Senior tutors might also recommend you to study skills support to further enhance your skills.
Support for Governance Processes
If you find yourself involved in a governance process such as Fitness to Practice, Professional Capability Committee (PCC), or Code of Student Discipline cases, it can be a stressful and complex experience. We provide guidance on university procedures, help you understand your rights and responsibilities, and support you throughout the process to ensure you are treated fairly.
Referrals to Disability & Dyslexia Service support
Students may choose to self-refer to the specialist DDS team via the MySIS portal, under the ‘Disability & Dyslexia’ tab. Students can also request to be screened for specific learning difference. The DDS team be utilised to access recommendations for reasonable adjustments, creating a student support summary, accessing exam access arrangements (EAA’s) and more.

VR mindfulness & meditation sessions
Stress and anxiety are common challenges for students, particularly those in high-pressure academic environments. We offer Virtual Reality mindfulness meditation sessions using VR headsets, designed to help you relax, focus, and manage stress more effectively. These immersive sessions provide a unique and innovative way to improve mental well-being. We currently have two types of software’s in use.
Volunteering opportunities contacts
If you have some free time and want to make a meaningful impact on the community, we recommend checking out the various volunteering opportunities available for students who want to get involved and make a difference. These roles provide valuable experience, develop your skills, and allow you to contribute to the Maltese community. Supporting the Completion of Student Status processes
If you have to take a break from university for personal, health, or academic reasons, we can offer an appointment to discuss interrupting your studies. We can guide you through the necessary steps and paperwork and provide a space to think about how a break might look. We also provide support through the Return to Studies, Change of Programme and Withdrawal processes.
