QMUL-ReMAKE

QMUL-ReMAKE

Rebuilding futures through entrepreneurship

QMUL-ReMAKE is a 12-week entrepreneurship training programme designed for formerly incarcerated individuals, supporting their journey back into employment, self-employment, and community life.

Founded by Judge Kameel Khan and inspired by a Stanford University model, the programme is delivered in partnership with Queen Mary’s School of Business and Management. It brings together entrepreneurs (prison leavers), Queen Mary students, and business mentors to create a powerful environment of hope, learning and practical skill building.

What is ReMAKE?

QMUL-ReMAKE is a hands-on, socially impactful programme where entrepreneurs:

  • Develop business ideas in a structured training environment
  • Learn essential entrepreneurial and employability skills
  • Work with Queen Mary student advisors and industry mentors
  • Build business plans and pitch to investors at the end of the programme
  • Access opportunities for internships and venture creation

Throughout the programme, entrepreneurs collaborate with Queen Mary students, who act as advisors–an experience that is mutually transformative.

Why this programme matters?

  • It changes lives: entrepreneurs leave the programme with confidence, business skills, real commercial insights, and support networks they may never have had access to before.
  • It creates pathways into work: Upon completing the programme, some entrepreneurs are put forward for internships with Capita Plc, while others go on to start their own ventures.
  • It has proven, measurable impact.

To date, QMUL-ReMAKE has supported:

  • 57 formerly incarcerated entrepreneurs,
  • 102 Queen Mary student advisors,
  • Helped lowering the reoffending rate to 9%, compared to the 59.2% national average.

These outcomes demonstrate the power of entrepreneurship, compassion and second chances.

How the programme works?

Duration: 12 weeks

Format: Workshops, mentoring, teamwork, project development and pitching

Delivered by: Queen Mary School of Business and Management in collaboration with Judge Kameel Khan

Participants work closely with Queen Mary business students who:

  • Provide advisor support,
  • Share entrepreneurial methodologies,
  • Co-create business plans,
  • Help prepare pitch presentations,
  • Offer insights and encouragement throughout the journey.

This peer learning model is a defining feature of the programme and is consistently highlighted by both students and entrepreneurs as deeply inspiring.

Student reflections

Students report that QMUL-ReMAKE is one of the most powerful, perspective-shifting experiences of their degree, including:

  • Seeing resilience and optimism in action,
  • Rethinking their own values around social justice,
  • Developing empathy, leadership and teamwork skills,
  • Gaining practical business advisory experience,

"This programme gave me a clearer understanding of the steps involved in building a business, from ideation to execution, and helped foster an entrepreneurial mindset within me." Stine Pashoja, MSc Digital Marketing
