Congratulation on receiving a distinction in International HR Management! Can you tell us a little bit about your journey at Queen Mary?

Thank you so much!

I’ve always believed that the workplace should feel like a “second home,” where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to do their best. This inspired me to pursue a career in HR, and Queen Mary’s MSc in International Human Resource Management programme really stood out. The course structure looked engaging and practical, and the University’s strong global ranking and status in the Russell Group made it an easy choice.

Adapting to the UK education system took some time, but I really enjoyed the challenge. I felt lucky to be taught by such supportive and inspiring professors, who encouraged me to think critically and apply concepts in real-world scenarios.

One of the highlights of my time at Queen Mary was being part of a truly diverse student group, with students from over 21 nationalities. Working alongside people with different perspectives and experiences was enriching. Graduation day, celebrating together with my peers, and receiving my distinction was such a special moment.

Transitioning from student to HR staff at Queen Mary has been an exciting next step. My colleagues in the HR Department have been welcoming and supportive, helping me settle into my role and learn the ropes. I feel proud to contribute to the positive culture here, and it’s rewarding to be part of a team that makes the workplace inclusive and empowering for all staff and students. Overall, being part of Queen Mary, first as a student, now as staff has been a journey I truly cherish, and I feel grateful and proud to be part of such a vibrant, global community.

What are your aspirations for the future?

I’ve really enjoyed working in both HR Recruitment and HR Operations teams, and it has given me a great foundation to grow my career in Human Resources. I’m keen to keep learning, gaining new experiences, and collaborating with colleagues across different teams to broaden my understanding of Human Resources management.

Looking ahead, I hope to take on more responsibility and continue developing my skills, with the aim of building a long-term career where I can make a positive impact. I’m passionate about contributing to an inclusive, supportive, and engaging workplace, and being part of initiatives that create meaningful change.

I also hope to continue networking and learning from others in the field, working my way into roles where I can influence and shape a positive culture.

Do you have any advice for international students studying at Queen Mary?

My advice for international students at Queen Mary would be to take full advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Nothing is ever a waste of time; every experience teaches you something valuable. For instance, I joined the School of Business and Management (SBM) Mentoring Programme and was fortunate to be paired with Sophie Harris, Deputy Director of HR at Queen Mary, as my mentor. I’m incredibly grateful to Sophie for her guidance and support. She helped me prepare for job applications, optimise my CV, run through mock interviews, and build my confidence throughout the process.

Through this mentoring programme, I also had the chance to meet other HR professionals, which was an amazing experience for someone at the beginning of their career. Other programmes offered by Queen Mary’s Careers department are also really worthwhile and provide fantastic opportunities to learn and grow.

During my sessions with Sophie, I gained insight into Queen Mary’s HR Department and realised that this was exactly the kind of environment I would love to work in. My advice to students would be to embrace these opportunities fully, you never know where they might lead.

What’s your favourite place on any of our campuses?

My favourite place on campus has to be the canal side. It’s really beautiful, and I love how calm and energising it feels to sit there for a while. I also enjoy spending time at The Grad Café and The Curve, they’re great spots for good food and catching up with friends. Of course, the library is another favourite of mine, especially when I want a quiet space to focus and get work done.

Do you have any hobbies, pastimes outside of studies?

I love to travel and try new foods, London is perfect for that, with its many food markets and diverse cuisine. I also enjoy exploring different places in the UK, and one of my favourite spots so far has been Castle Combe and The Seven Sisters Cliff, it’s absolutely beautiful. I’m also a big fan of watching series and movies across different genres. Dance is another passion of mine, and I also enjoy staying active through sports and Zumba whenever I can. These hobbies help me relax and stay energised.

Are there any Queen Mary activities you’d recommend staff or students getting involved with?

I would definitely recommend getting involved with the student hubs, clubs, and societies at Queen Mary. Joining these groups is a great way to meet new people, build connections, and to explore different interests. Volunteering opportunities are also fantastic, they allow you to give back while developing new skills. I’d also encourage participating in social events on campus, as they’re a fun way to relax, make friends, and feel part of the Queen Mary community.
