Have you ever wondered what it is really like to carry out climate research in one of Earth’s most extreme environments? Join a live video link with the Vernadsky Antarctic Research Base and discover life and science at the edge of the world.
Originally founded by Britain in 1947 as Faraday Station, the Antarctic base Vernadsky was transferred to Ukraine in February 1996 for the symbolic sum of £1. This decision, driven by a commitment to sustainability and international research cooperation following the collapse of the Soviet Union, remains a powerful example of responsible scientific leadership.
To mark the 30th anniversary of this unique act of cooperation, we will hold a live video link with the Antarctic research station Vernadsky, offering a rare, real-time connection to scientists working on the edge of the world.
Together, with the accompanying exhibition, the live connection offer visitors a deeper, more immediate understanding of Antarctic science, life, and international cooperation.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore the station, meet its personnel, and learn about their day-to-day work and life. We invite you to submit questions about science or life at the station and the researchers will answer selected questions!
